summary for the digestive system in animal

DIGESTION is essential as the food we eat are insoluble and made up of large molecule which can not diffuse through hence digestion is necessary to break the large insoluble molecules down into small insoluble molecules

ENZYMES are biological catalyts that speeds up digestion
different enzyme is resposible for different nutrients into smaller soluble molecules
protiens >> amino acids
carbohydrate>>glucose/simple sugaar
fats >> glycerol
different digestive juice are produce at different parts of our alimentary canal
mouth is the begining of our alimentary canal
the path is
mouth >> oesophagus ( gullet) >> stomach >> small intestine >> large intesine >> rectum >> anus
AMYLASE
PTYALIN is a type of amylase present in the saliva . the action of chewing stimulate the salivary glands to secrete saliva

MOUTH
-not all starch is digested in the mouth .
-the cutting action of teeth helps break down food into smaller pieces in aid to digestion
+the cutting action increases the are of food in contact with saliva which makes digestion faster
- the saliva mixes and softhens it so that it can bw swallowed easily

OESOPHAGUS
-is a long muscular tube connecting the stomach and mouth
-contraction of the muscle cause the food to move downwards
- digestion does not take place in the oesophagus

STOMACH
-only proteins is digested
- the movement of the stomach helps the food to be digested
- food go into the small intestine in a semi liquid state
SMALL INTESTINE
-digest all of the insoluble substance / starch into glucose / protiens into amino acids /fats into glycerol and fatty acids. food then diffuse into the capilliars to be use
-waste sbustance are then transport into large intestine
LARGE INTESTINE
-absorb the water and minerals
RECTUM
-store the faeces
ANUS
- end of the digestive system
-faeces all comes out
DIGESTION OF FATS AND PROTEINS
fat into (lipase or bile)>>> fatty acids and glycerol
protiens into (protease or pepsins ) >>> amino acids ( over-sexretion can cause stomach ulcers a.k.a gastric pains
